Wondering what Notes / The Heritage Lab is and how to navigate it? You’re in the right place.

Notes is where I write and think out loud about GLAMs and digital technology - projects, approaches, observations, and sector developments worth sharing.

I’ve written about this before (including on The Heritage Lab’s main site), but increasingly I felt this kind of writing needed its own home. So here it is…think of this site as a mix between old Twitter and old-school blogging. With Big Social becoming a Big Mess, there’s never been a better time to reclaim a space on the open web, built for both quick notes and long form writing.

I’d love for you to read, follow, respond, and add to the conversation.

Here’s how Notes is organised and how to make the most of it.

What’s here

Articles are longer, considered pieces : essays, case studies, reviews of digital experiences at cultural institutions, and reflections on projects I’m working on.

Notes are shorter and more immediate : observations, links with commentary, quick thoughts, and updates.

Now is a single page : what I’m currently reading, working on, recent photography… and the occasional personal update.

How to stay updated

This site has no newsletter (for now). Instead, you can follow via RSS - a simple way to get new posts delivered directly to a reading app of your choice, without algorithms or inboxes.

If you use a feed reader, copy either link and paste it in.

If you’re new to RSS: To get started, download a free RSS reader, then paste either link (or both!) above into the app.Think of it like a podcast app, but for websites. You subscribe once and new posts appear automatically.

Blogroll & Resources

I want to maintain a Blogroll of sites and writers I read and recommend (the old-school way), and a Resources page of tools and references I find useful.

If you’d like to suggest something for either, or if you think your work belongs there please write to me.

Contributions

A record of my external writing, talks, and other work lives on the Contributions page.
